Honoring the legacy of Wilt Hildenbrand

The Wilt J. Hildenbrand Jr. Scholarship and Rising Leader Award honor the legacy of an industry visionary whose leadership, innovation, and mentorship shaped modern broadband.

Wilt Hildenbrand dedicated four decades to advancing the cable telecommunications industry, beginning with Cablevision in 1976. Known for his brilliance, straight talk, and relentless pursuit of excellence, he helped pioneer digital video, Pay-Per-View, Video on Demand, and 100-Mbps broadband services — paving the way for the high-speed connectivity we rely on today.

To celebrate Wilt’s 40 years of service and lifelong commitment to innovation, friendship, and mentorship, Rouzbeh Yassini, founder of the YAS Foundation, established a founding grant of $200,000 to launch the Wilt J. Hildenbrand Jr. Scholarship and Rising Leader Award in partnership with the SCTE Foundation.

Yassini’s gift honors both Wilt’s memory and their enduring friendship that began in 1987, when the two worked together to advance the first commercial cable modem deployment. As Rouzbeh recalls, “Wilt provided a world of inspiration and support for the industry — a true visionary and leader who is deeply missed.”

The Wilt J. Hildenbrand Jr. Scholarship Fund supports the college education of children of fallen soldiers, fostering opportunity and honoring Wilt’s belief in the power of technology to uplift communities and connect the world.

In addition, the Wilt J. Hildenbrand Jr. Rising Leader Award recognizes outstanding professionals under 40 who demonstrate exceptional promise and leadership within the broadband industry. The award is presented annually at SCTE TechExpo, with Wilt’s family continuing to participate in honoring new recipients.

Together, these programs preserve Wilt’s legacy by empowering the next generation of innovators and leaders who will carry forward his vision of a connected, compassionate world.
